Venezuelan National Kills Texas Officer in San Antonio

On Sunday, San Antonio police officers responded to a domestic violence call, resulting in a shootout that left Officer Viviana Rodriguez injured and the suspect, Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, dead. Chacon-Gutierrez, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, had entered the U.S. illegally and was released by Border Patrol with a 2026 court date. Rodriguez, who has been with SAPD for three years, underwent surgery and is expected to have a long recovery. The incident has sparked political outrage, with critics citing it as a consequence of lenient immigration policies. Chief William McManus confirmed the suspect's illegal status, expressing frustration over the circumstances. The other officers involved, Victoria Camacho and Miguel Cardoza, were unharmed and placed on administrative leave.
