Williams Replaces Logan Sargeant with Colapinto
Logan Sargeant has been dropped by Williams Racing mid-season, following disappointing performances and a heavy crash during practice for the Dutch Grand Prix. This decision comes as the team promotes Franco Colapinto, a 21-year-old Argentine driver currently sixth in the Formula 2 standings, to take over for the remainder of the 2024 season, starting at the Italian Grand Prix. Sargeant's tenure in Formula 1 has been marked by struggles, with only one point scored in his 36 race starts and a series of accidents that raised concerns about his performance. Team principal James Vowles emphasized the need to maximize points in a competitive midfield and acknowledged Sargeant's efforts despite the challenging circumstances. Colapinto will be the first Argentine driver in F1 since 2001, and he is keen to make the most of this unexpected opportunity. Sargeant is set to leave Williams at the end of the season, with Carlos Sainz Jr. already signed to partner Alex Albon for the 2025 season.
