Mamata Banerjee Pressures Modi for Stronger Rape Laws

In her letter, dated August 29, she expressed disappointment over receiving only a generic response from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, rather than a direct reply from Modi. Banerjee emphasized the urgent need for stringent central legislation to combat rising sexual violence in the country. She highlighted the state's proactive measures, including the establishment of exclusive POCSO courts and the funding and monitoring of these courts by the state government. The Chief Minister's ongoing appeal reflects her concerns about the gravity of the issue and the perceived lack of seriousness from the central authority.
