D.C. Councilmember Trayon White Arrested for Bribery

Washington D.C. Councilmember Trayon White Sr. has been arrested and charged with accepting $156,000 in bribes to extend government contracts worth $5.2 million for violence prevention services. White, who has a history of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories, was caught on video receiving $35,000 in cash over four separate occasions from an FBI informant. The informant, who agreed to cooperate with the FBI as part of a plea deal, also reported giving White gifts and trips. White faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted, and he was released on a recognizance bond after a brief court appearance. The Department of Justice acted swiftly due to the potential for imminent contract awards related to the bribery scheme.
