Multiple Convictions in Drug Trafficking Cases
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has the option to challenge the governor's sanction for prosecution in court, referencing similar cases involving former CM BS Yediyurappa. Multiple court convictions related to drug and contraband trafficking were reported: a Tirupati court sentenced three red sanders smugglers to one-year imprisonment, and a Ludhiana court sentenced a drug peddler to ten years for heroin possession. In the U.S., Mohamed Aweys Muse was sentenced to 2.5 years for selling fentanyl near a methadone clinic in Seattle, Jorge Rodriguez-Martinez received a 10-year sentence for meth trafficking in Georgia, and Nicki Wayne Parker was sentenced to over 11 years for meth distribution in North Carolina. Additionally, ICRA forecasted a slowdown in the NBFC sector growth for FY25 due to tight funding conditions.
