Punjab Government Announces Aid for HIV-Affected Children

The Punjab government has announced a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,500 for children of HIV-infected parents as part of a new initiative aimed at supporting those affected by the disease and reducing stigma. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh revealed these plans during the first meeting of the State Council on AIDS, which also proposed free transportation for patients to the Anti-Retroviral Therapy Centre. A task force will be established to create tailored programs that enhance employability for individuals living with HIV. The initiative emphasizes the need for industries to adopt an HIV/AIDS policy and to designate officers to handle discrimination issues. Additionally, a mass awareness campaign will be launched to educate the public about HIV. This comprehensive approach seeks to improve the quality of life for those affected by HIV in Punjab.
