Arunachal Pradesh Strengthens Inner Line Permit System

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has initiated efforts to strengthen the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, which mandates non-Arunachalee citizens to obtain permission to enter the state. In a meeting with government officials and the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), Khandu emphasized the importance of the ILP in protecting indigenous tribes from outside influx and illegal migration. AAPSU presented recommendations aimed at improving the ILP, including enhanced monitoring and the suspension of the electronic ILP system due to concerns over cross-border movement from Bangladesh. They suggested consolidating ILP issuance under a single department for better oversight and proposed digitizing records to improve data accuracy. Khandu acknowledged the government's ongoing preparations to strengthen the ILP, underscoring the need for collaboration with AAPSU for effective implementation.
