Cooling Centers Open Amid Extreme Heat Waves

As extreme heat waves sweep across multiple regions, cities like New York, Vancouver, Portland, and Atlanta are opening cooling centers to help residents stay safe. In New York City, 44 public schools will serve as cooling centers, while Vancouver and Portland have designated churches and community centers for this purpose. Multnomah County in Portland is also extending library hours and providing free public transit rides to cooling centers. Similarly, Oregon and Springfield are opening several centers with support from local agencies, while Atlanta has opened centers in response to a heat advisory.
