Rajasthan Assembly Adjourned Amid Prosecutor Appointment Chaos

The Rajasthan Assembly experienced significant turmoil on Monday over the appointment of public prosecutors using outdated provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) instead of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Speaker Vasudev Devnani adjourned the House twice amid escalating chaos, and eventually, Assembly Chairperson Sandeep Sharma adjourned the session for the day. Congress MLA Mukesh Bhakar was suspended following a proposal by Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg, after heated arguments arose regarding alleged procedural violations and nepotism in the appointments. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully demanded a government response, emphasizing that the CrPC was replaced by the BNSS on July 1, necessitating adherence to the new code for appointments. Despite acknowledging the issue, Devnani denied immediate discussion, leading to further unrest that required marshals to intervene. The session was subsequently adjourned until Tuesday.
