Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has dissolved the party's core committee amid growing rebellion from senior leaders who demanded his resignation following poor electoral performances, particularly in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Prominent dissenters include former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, and others who have formed a movement called 'Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar Lehar' to revitalize the party. SAD senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema confirmed the dissolution and stated that the committee will be reorganized shortly to address internal conflicts. The rebels had previously sought forgiveness for mistakes made during their tenure in power, highlighting issues such as the handling of sacrilege incidents. This decision reflects Badal's effort to reinforce his leadership while sending a warning to dissenters about their behavior within the party. The core committee was last reconstituted in November 2022, indicating ongoing instability within the party ranks.
