Montana Abortion Rights Amendment Initiative on Ballot Pending Signature Verification

Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights (MSRR) has collected over 117,000 signatures, nearly double the required amount, to qualify Constitutional Initiative 128 (CI-128) to protect abortion rights for the November ballot in Montana. This initiative aims to enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution and prevent future legislative or judicial attempts to restrict abortion access. The submission of signatures in Montana must still undergo verification by county election officials. This effort is part of a broader trend in several states to safeguard reproductive rights after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, with a similar initiative occurring in Arizona following the Arizona Supreme Court's upholding of an 1864 abortion ban. Abortion rights groups believe that these measures could also influence voter turnout and impact upcoming elections.
