Haitian National Detained by ICE Before Rape Hearing

Cory Bernard Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national, was arrested by ICE near his residence in Brockton, Massachusetts, after being released on $500 bail for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at a migrant shelter in Rockland. Alvarez had been admitted to the U.S. legally in June 2023 but violated his terms of entry with the alleged crime. Despite an ICE detainer, the Plymouth County Superior Court previously released him, prioritizing public safety concerns. Alvarez, who pleaded not guilty, is now in ICE custody, with the case continuing in Massachusetts courts. The attack reportedly took place in March at a Comfort Inn used as a migrant shelter. The case has been continued to August 22 for a status hearing and to consider a motion to compel Alvarez to provide a DNA sample.
