Elderly Women Inspire with Community Spirit
Akkatai Langoti, a 65-year-old woman from Suttatti village in Belagavi district, Karnataka, organized a mass meal for her community after the state's Gruha Lakshmi scheme resumed, providing women heads of families with Rs 2,000 monthly. Despite her financial struggles, she vowed to host a communal meal if the payments restarted, leading her and other villagers to prepare and serve holige, a sweet dish, to nearly a thousand people. This gesture of gratitude caught the attention of Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, who honored her with a silk sari. Similarly, a 75-year-old woman in Surat, Gujarat, has gained social media fame for her unique bread pakoras, inspiring many with her dedication. These stories highlight the resilience and community spirit of elderly women in India, making significant impacts in their communities. Both women’s acts have garnered widespread admiration on social media.
