Two Drown After Being Swept off Rocks in Santa Cruz
Two people drowned in Santa Cruz after being swept off rocks by a wave near West Cliff Drive at David Way on Tuesday evening. The Santa Cruz Fire Department received multiple emergency calls at around 6:18 p.m. Rescue crews found the victims floating face down and attempted resuscitation efforts, but both victims were ultimately pronounced dead. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the victims and notify their families. Fire officials have reiterated warnings for beachgoers to stay vigilant and be aware of 'sneaker waves' that can catch people off guard. Multiple agencies, including lifeguards and the harbor patrol, were involved in the rescue efforts.
