Former MLB Star Raúl Mondesi Sentenced for Corruption

Former MLB star Raul Mondesi has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison by a Dominican court for corruption charges related to embezzling $5 million during his tenure as mayor of San Cristobal. Despite the sentence, Mondesi's time under house arrest was considered to have served his term. The 53-year-old, a former professional baseball player turned politician, played 13 seasons in the MLB, winning awards like the NL Rookie of the Year in 1994 and two Gold Gloves. Mondesi's legal journey included fines and restrictions on holding public office, with his political career spanning from serving as a lawmaker to a failed bid for the Senate. Additionally, his son, Adalberto Mondesi, also a baseball player, won the World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 2015 and is currently a free agent.
