India rescues cyber scam
Recent rescue operations have highlighted the dangers of fraudulent job offers for Indian nationals in Southeast Asia. The Indian Embassy in Laos successfully rescued 14 youths from cyber-scam centers in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, bringing the total number of rescues to 548. These individuals had been lured with false promises of well-paying jobs and were subsequently trafficked and forced to work under harsh conditions. Agents in countries such as India, Dubai, and Bangkok often recruit victims with enticing job descriptions, only for them to end up in exploitative situations. The Embassy has issued warnings urging potential job seekers to verify the legitimacy of job offers and avoid illegal employment practices, emphasizing the severe legal consequences for traffickers. In a related incident, six Indians, including two from Kerala, were rescued from Cambodia after being held captive by cyber scamsters, illustrating the widespread issue of human trafficking for cyber fraud in the region.
