Philippines, Cambodia Commit to Strengthening Ties

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos has reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Cambodia during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea. Marcos emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and cooperation, particularly within the context of ASEAN, during the Cambodian official's visit, which includes co-chairing the 4th Meeting of the Cambodia-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC). The meeting aims to assess progress on agreements established in the previous JCBC meeting in 2021. Both leaders expressed intentions to enhance trade and tourism ties, as well as cooperation in defense and security. The Philippines and Cambodia have maintained cordial relations since their diplomatic ties were resumed in 1995. This visit marks Sok's first official trip to an ASEAN country as the head of a delegation since 2017.
