The RCMP have arrested a father and son, Ahmed Fouad Mostafa Eldidi, 62, and Mostafa Eldidi, 26, in the Greater Toronto Area for allegedly conspiring to commit murder and other terrorism-related activities in association with the Islamic State. The two were apprehended in Richmond Hill while in the advanced stages of planning a violent attack in Toronto and have been charged with six terrorism offenses, including facilitating terrorist activity and possessing weapons for dangerous purposes. Recently acquired weapons, such as an axe and machete, were intended to further their plans. Ahmed Eldidi also faces a charge of aggravated assault linked to Islamic State activities in 2015. There is no current risk to the public according to the RCMP, who will provide more details in a press conference. A publication ban under section 517 is in place regarding specifics of the case.
