India has achieved significant progress in railway electrification, with 95% of its 68,000 km rail network electrified, making it the largest green railway globally, as highlighted by Mukul Saran Mathur, Additional Member of the Ministry of Railways. The Indian government has allocated Rs 85,000 crore for railway expansion in the fiscal year 2023-24, focusing on modernization efforts, including the introduction of Vande Bharat trains. Daily, the railway system serves two crore passengers and has operated over 5,000 special trains to assist migrant workers. Experts at the ASSOCHAM National Conference emphasized that modernizing the railways is crucial for achieving India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India) and enhancing economic growth. Key discussions included leveraging AI and machine learning for cargo visibility and improving safety measures to meet increasing demand. The transformation aims to develop a world-class railway network that supports both connectivity and economic development.
