Hurricane Beryl Heads Towards Mexico
Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record, has caused widespread devastation across the Caribbean and is now heading towards Mexico. The storm, which has weakened to a Category 3, has destroyed up to 95% of homes on several islands and resulted in at least nine deaths across the region, including casualties in Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Venezuela, and Jamaica. Beryl is expected to make landfall on the Yucatán Peninsula early Friday morning as a Category 1 or 2 hurricane before potentially restrengthening in the Gulf of Mexico and possibly impacting the northern Gulf Coast or South Texas by early next week. The storm has brought severe flooding, dangerous storm surges, and extensive power outages, particularly in Jamaica, where the Prime Minister has declared a disaster area. Hurricane warnings continue for the Cayman Islands and parts of Mexico, with residents advised to monitor the storm's path closely.
