The sixteenth season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' premiered on August 12, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, who expressed gratitude for the audience's support. The first contestant, Utkarsh Baxi from Bengaluru, showcased his knowledge but ultimately lost a Rs 25 lakh question regarding the Mahabharata, which asked about the god who gifted a garland to Amba. Despite using lifelines, including 'Video Call a Friend' and 'Double Dip', he incorrectly answered with Lord Shiva and Lord Vayu; the correct answer was Lord Kartikeya. Utkarsh did, however, win Rs 3.20 lakh and showcased his musical talent by singing a song for Bachchan. The show introduced new features such as 'Super Sawaal' and 'Dugnaastra', allowing contestants to double their winnings. Bachchan's emotional opening speech set a sentimental tone for the new season.
