HKEX Appoints Johnson Chui as Head of Global Issuer Services
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) has appointed Johnson Chui as managing director and head of global issuer services, effective September 2, 2024, in a bid to attract more overseas companies for initial public offerings (IPOs). Chui, who has over 25 years of experience in equity capital markets, previously held significant roles at Nomura, Credit Suisse, Citigroup, and Goldman Sachs. His position is newly created to lead global issuer services teams across Hong Kong, mainland China, London, and Singapore, reflecting HKEX's goal to diversify its issuer base, which is predominantly from mainland China. The exchange aims to recover from a slow IPO market, with 41 new listings so far in 2024, amidst a backdrop of KPMG's forecast of only 80 new listings raising HK$60 billion this year. HKEX executives, including Financial Secretary Paul Chan, emphasize the need to promote Hong Kong as a leading fundraising destination for international companies.
