Wimbledon 2024 Attendance Drops Due to Rain

Wimbledon 2024 has seen a notable drop in attendance, attributed mainly to the unusually poor weather, with nearly a month's worth of rain falling in the first week alone. Despite the dreary conditions, several celebrities, including Stephen Fry, Michael McIntyre, Princess Beatrice, and Sienna Miller, were seen enjoying the tournament from the Royal Box. Chief executive of the All England Club, Sally Bolton, acknowledged the weather's impact on visitor numbers, noting it was the most challenging tournament to schedule since 2020. The first week attendance was down by 3.7% compared to last year, with Friday recording the lowest numbers since 1998, excluding the pandemic year. However, the tradition of holding back tickets for day-of sales through the Queue continues to ensure accessibility, despite contributing to attendance variability.
