Assamese Films Shine at 70th National Film Awards
The 70th National Film Awards celebrated the achievements of Assamese cinema, with three films from Assam winning prestigious Rajat Kamal awards. 'Emuthi Puthi' was recognized as the best Assamese feature film, while 'Sikaisal' won for best Tiwa film, both directors and producers receiving Rs 2 lakh each. Additionally, 'Xunyota' secured the Rajat Kamal for best short film under 30 minutes. Two other Assamese films, 'Birubala – Witch to Padmashri' and 'Hargila – The Greater Adjutant Stork', received special mentions in the non-feature film category. The awards ceremony will take place in October 2024, honoring the winners and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient. This recognition highlights the growing influence and storytelling power of Assamese cinema on a national platform.
