Netflix's Bioshock Film Reimagined with Smaller Budget
Netflix's film adaptation of the video game 'Bioshock' is being reconfigured as a more personal project with a reduced budget, according to producer Roy Lee. The film, which remains under the direction of Francis Lawrence, was first announced in February 2022 but is now shifting away from the previous expansive spending strategy of former film chief Scott Stuber to a more modest approach under Dan Lin. Lee emphasized that this smaller version will focus on a more intimate storytelling perspective rather than a grand epic narrative. The 'Bioshock' franchise, known for its exploration of utopian failures, has sold over 39 million copies worldwide since the release of the first game in 2007. Additionally, Netflix is changing its compensation model to tie bonuses to viewership numbers instead of buyouts. This restructuring aims to motivate producers to create films that resonate with audiences.
