Sheffield Teen Jailed for School Attack

Louis Melotte, a 17-year-old, was sentenced to a total of ten years, including five years in a youth offenders institution, for a violent attack at Birley Academy in Sheffield, which occurred in May 2024. Armed with broken glass hidden in his sleeve, Melotte assaulted a 12-year-old girl and two staff members, leading to a lockdown of the school and a significant police response. Prior to the attack, he had made threatening posts on social media, indicating his intent to carry out violence. During the incident, bravery from staff members, particularly youth worker Molly Bulmer and receptionist Alicia Richards, prevented further harm to the students. The court praised their courageous actions, highlighting the traumatic impact the attack had on the victims. Judge Jeremy Richardson expressed concerns about Melotte's dangerousness, particularly due to his far-right views.
