Detroit Marriott Employee Sues for Assault

A former employee is suing the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, alleging she was sexually assaulted by her manager, Dhurba Koirala, on August 8, 2023. The lawsuit, filed in Wayne County Circuit Court, claims Koirala invited the woman to his hotel room, under the pretense that other employees would be present, and then made her an alcoholic drink and food. She woke up disoriented the next morning, with signs indicating an assault had occurred. DNA evidence from a rape kit matched Koirala, leading to his arrest and pending criminal charges. The lawsuit names Marriott International and its affiliates, alleging negligence, creating a hostile work environment, and violations of the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. The woman claims she was forced to resign due to the intolerable working conditions and trauma experienced.
