Netflix has defended its controversial series Baby Reindeer, asserting it is a 'drama, not a documentary' following criticism over its claim of being based on a true story. The show, created by comedian Richard Gadd, depicts a long-term harassment scenario and has prompted legal action from Fiona Harvey, who claims to be the real-life inspiration for the character Martha. Anne Mensah, Netflix's vice-president of UK content, emphasized that the show has led to increased support-seeking behavior among men facing similar issues and expressed disappointment if the controversy overshadowed this positive impact. She reiterated that the intention was not to generate publicity but to allow Gadd to share his story authentically, while denying any algorithm manipulation for its success. Despite Harvey's lawsuit, Mensah remains steadfast in her support for the series, highlighting its emotional truth rather than strict factual accuracy.
