UK to Classify Extreme Misogyny as Extremism

The UK government, led by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, plans to treat extreme misogyny as a form of extremism in a new approach to counter-terrorism. This initiative aims to address the radicalization of young men online, with misogynistic influencers like Andrew Tate being a particular concern. The review will examine gaps in existing counter-extremism strategies and propose legal requirements for teachers and healthcare professionals to refer individuals exhibiting extreme misogynistic behavior to the Prevent program. This move seeks to combat hateful ideologies that threaten community cohesion and democracy, putting misogyny on par with Islamist and far-right extremism. The rapid review is expected to be completed by Autumn, with a new strategy anticipated early next year.
