Arsenal have officially signed Spain international Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for an initial fee of €32.5 million, potentially rising with €5 million in add-ons. The 28-year-old midfielder, who was pivotal in Spain's Euro 2024 victory, brings extensive experience and versatility, having previously played for Osasuna, Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle United. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu highlighted Merino's technical ability, strong character, and winning mentality as key reasons for the acquisition. Merino becomes Arsenal's third major signing this summer, following the permanent additions of goalkeeper David Raya and Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori. The Gunners aim to bolster their squad to challenge reigning champions Manchester City for the Premier League title.
