Evy Leibfarth in canoe slalom
Evy Leibfarth secured a bronze medal in the women's canoe slalom at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking the first medal for the U.S. in this event in 20 years. Despite finishing 12th in the semifinals, Leibfarth's time of 109.95 seconds in the finals placed her third, just behind Australia's Jessica Fox and Germany's Elena Lilik. The 20-year-old expressed pride in her achievement, particularly as she shared the moment with her father, who also serves as her coach. Leibfarth, who previously competed in kayak slalom but did not qualify for the finals, highlighted her resilience after the disappointment in that event. This bronze medal is significant as it is the first solo canoe medal for a U.S. woman since 2004. Looking ahead, Leibfarth is also set to compete in the new kayak cross event, showcasing her versatility as an athlete.
