Typhoon Shanshan Causes Severe Disruptions in Japan
Typhoon Shanshan is causing widespread disruptions and severe weather warnings across Japan as it approaches the southwestern regions, particularly Kyushu and the Amami Islands. Authorities have issued alerts for heavy rain, strong winds, high tides, and possible landslides, with wind speeds near the storm’s center reaching up to 180 kph and rainfall totals potentially exceeding 500 millimeters in some areas. Significant travel disruptions are in effect, including flight cancellations by Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airlines, and possible suspensions of Shinkansen bullet train services. A landslide in Aichi Prefecture has already trapped three people, two of whom have been rescued. Residents and travelers are advised to stay informed and follow evacuation orders. The storm is expected to make landfall on Thursday, bringing unprecedented weather conditions and further potential damage.
