Indian Film Festival of Melbourne Opens 2024

The 15th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024 commenced with a grand opening on August 15, featuring the premiere of the anthology film 'My Melbourne', which showcases stories exploring themes of race, gender, and disability. Bollywood luminaries such as Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan, and Imtiaz Ali attended the event, emphasizing the festival's commitment to diversity and inclusivity in cinema. Mitu Bhowmik Lange, the festival's director, highlighted the cultural significance of the festival and its role in bridging communities. Running from August 15 to August 25, IFFM will showcase films in various Indian languages and celebrate the rich heritage shared between India and Australia. Additionally, a stamp honoring late filmmaker Yash Chopra was launched in his memory at the Australian Parliament House. The festival promises a vibrant array of screenings and cultural programs, underlining the impact of Indian cinema worldwide.
